Postgraduate Taught Equitable Scholarship (Environmental and Life Sciences)

There are 3 scholarships covering all tuition fees for UK-domiciled students from racially minoritised ethnic backgrounds. 

Deadline: 31 August 2025, 5pm (UK time)

Eligibility 

To get this scholarship you must:

  • be from a racially minoritised ethnic background  (see the UK Government’s guidance on ethnicity for more details)
    • Asian British
    • Black
    • Black British
    • Caribbean or African Mixed or multiple ethnic groups
  • have a conditional or unconditional offer to study an eligible full time or 2-year part time MSc or MRes course
  • be studying in-person at the University of Southampton, not through distance learning or a study abroad programme
  • be eligible for home fees
  • be paying your tuition fees yourself
  • not be receiving any external scholarships

We cannot accept exchange or partner students.

Full time or part time MSc or MRes courses from these subject areas are eligible. 

We do not accept students on 2 to 5 year MSc courses, PGCert, PGDip, PGR or Continuous Professional Development (CPD) courses.

How to apply 

This is a competitive process and not all applications will be successful.

To apply for this scholarship:

  1. apply for an eligible postgraduate course at the University of Southampton
  2. complete and submit the online application form

For applications made on or before 5 July, we will contact you:

  • by 31 July if your application is successful
  • after 31 July if your application is not successful

For applications made between 5 July and 31 August, we will contact you by 11 September with an outcome.

We cannot accept late applications. If your application is successful, you will receive confirmation in writing.  

All scholarship offers are final, and scholarships cannot be deferred.

How we award scholarships 

There are 4 stages to the shortlisting process:  

  1. We first check that you meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. We then score and rank the supporting statement in your scholarship application.
  3. We shortlist candidates, aiming to ensure awards across the breadth of our disciplines.
  4. A scholarship panel will make the final selection of 3 scholarship recipients. 

The decision of the scholarship panel is final.
