Results of a recently completed SHTAC project evaluating educational approaches for preventing vascular catheter bloodstream infections in critical care patients will be presented at a major international conference on healthcare-associated infections.

The 8th International HIS/FIS Conference, being held at the BT Conference Centre in Liverpool during 19-21 November (, will bring together leading clinical and academic experts in infection prevention and control, and is a major forum for the presentation and discussion of research into healthcare-associated infections. Researchers from SHTAC will be presenting a poster on a recently-completed  research project which addressed an important cause of infections in critical care patients. The project, which was funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme, employed evidence mapping, a systematic review and an economic evaluation to investigate whether educational interventions are clinically effective and cost effective for preventing catheter-related bloodstream infections in these patients.

A talk on this SHTAC project will also be given at a meeting of the Infection Prevention Society IV Forum, in Manchester on 29th November.
