The JCQ results embargo
The University will be observing the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) results embargo period from 8:00am (UK time) on 7 August 2026 until 8:00am (UK time) on Thursday 13 August 2026.
During the results embargo:
- UCAS will not update application statuses with new decisions
- universities are not permitted to discuss individual applications where results are under embargo
If your results are under embargo, we will not be able to:
- confirm or discuss the outcome of your application
- provide updates based on your exam results
What happens on results day?
On results day you can check the status of your offer on UCAS Hub.
We'll also email you in the morning to explain whether we can confirm your place or not. Please check your email account, including your spam or junk folder, from 8:00am BST on Thursday 13th August.
Most results are sent to us automatically via UCAS, and you can visit their website to see the list of qualifications we receive from UCAS. If your results aren't included, you'll need to send them to our admissions team.
You can find useful information on the UCAS website for how to prepare for results day and advice for if you're waiting for your place to be confirmed.
Yes. If you would like to apply elsewhere, you should contact UCAS between 08:00 (UK time) on Thursday 13 August and 2 September to ask to be released into Clearing.
Please be aware that this will release you from both your firm and insurance choices. Only choose this option if you are certain that you no longer wish to take up either place.
If you are holding a Conditional Firm offer with us and are unsure why your place has not yet been confirmed, please see the information within the 'Why isn't my place showing as confirmed in UCAS hub?' section below.
We understand that results don’t always go as planned and that applicants are passionate about studying one of our courses.
If you do not meet your offer conditions, we'll review your application and decide whether we are still able to accept you on your chosen course. We will communicate our decision via UCAS Hub and by email.
If we are unable to confirm your original course, we will try to consider you for an alternative course.
Your UCAS Hub will continue to show your offer as conditional if you still have outstanding conditions to meet, such as providing GCSE results or successfully completing occupational health screening.
To check which conditions are still outstanding, review the details of your offer in UCAS Hub.
Please email any information needed to meet your outstanding offer conditions to the relevant email address:
- admissionsug.els@soton.ac.uk for Health Sciences courses including Audiology
- admissionsug.med@soton.ac.uk for Medicine courses
- UGadmissions@soton.ac.uk for all other courses
Once you have met all of your offer conditions, we will confirm your place as soon as possible.
Please note that for most courses you have until 2 September to meet any outstanding conditions. If you cannot meet this date please get in contact with us using the details above.
If you have applied for a Medicine or a Health Science course, there may be other specific deadlines that apply to you. Please check your offer email for further guidance.
If you are unable to meet this deadline, it is important that you contact the admissions team via email as soon as possible.
What do I do next if my place is confirmed?
If your offer is confirmed, you'll receive an email on the morning of Thursday 13 August 2026 with details about what you need to do next.
You can visit our welcome pages to find the essential tasks you'll need to complete before you start at the University. You'll also find useful information about joining your new community there.
If you would like to be considered for a different course, please complete our Offer Holder Enquiry Form.
Please note we will be unable to grant any requests to change to our medicine courses.
Yes. From 2 July, if you are holding an unconditional firm place with Southampton, you can release yourself into Clearing by using the ‘Decline my place’ button in your UCAS Hub.
Before doing this, we recommend making sure you have an alternative offer from another university. Once you have completed the process, your place at Southampton will be declined and cannot be reinstated.
See the UCAS website for further advice on declining your firm place.
What should I do if my original choice isn't confirmed?
If you didn't get the grades you'd hoped for, don't worry. We will try to offer you a place on an alternative course if we're unable to confirm your original course choice.
If you haven't received an alternative course offer, there are still options available to you. You can consider discussing with your school or college about appealing your grade, or you can apply for a course through Clearing.
For more information about your options, you can see the UCAS Unexpected grades webpage.
We aim to call everyone who receives an alternative course offer so you can find out more about the course and ask any questions you may have.
If we make you an alternative course offer, you'll need to respond by the deadline shown in UCAS Hub.
If you'd like to accept the offer, you must do so through UCAS Hub by the deadline shown. This will allow you to complete the required pre-enrolment steps.
If you're unsure whether the alternative course is right for you, you can discuss it with a University representative before making your decision.
If you'd like to be considered for a different course, please complete our Offer Holder Enquiry Form and we'll contact you to discuss your options.
If you do not wish to pursue an alternative course at Southampton, you can decline the offer. Depending on your circumstances, you may then be accepted by your insurance choice or released into Clearing. If you're unsure what to do, please contact UCAS for advice.
Once you've made your decision, make sure you update it in UCAS Hub, as this is where all offer decisions must be confirmed.
If your grades change following a successful re-mark, please get in touch with our admissions team as soon as possible.
Updated grades that meet our requirements will be considered up to 2 September 2026. Please note that we cannot amend any offer decisions until your revised grades have been confirmed by the relevant awarding body, and that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to offer you a place if your grades do change.
For courses in Medicine and Health Sciences please inform us using the contact details below if you are requesting a re-mark.
If you are a Southampton offer holder and you haven’t already told us about your circumstances, please complete our Offer Holder Enquiry Form. We'll let you know if we require any supporting evidence.
Whilst we will consider your circumstances this does not necessarily mean that we will be able to change our original decision. If you previously notified us of extenuating circumstances, these will already have been taken into account when considering your results.
How do I defer my entry?
If you applied for 2026 entry but want to defer your place to 2027, or you applied for 2027 entry and want to change to 2026 entry instead, please complete our Offer Holder Enquiry Form.
Please note for courses in Medicine and Health Sciences it may not be possible to accommodate changes to entry year due to course capacity. We will review all requests and notify of the you of the outcome.
