About
Bilal is a PhD researcher in Control Systems Engineering in the Future Mobility Lab at the University of Southampton, led by Dr Anil Madhusudhanan. His research focuses on energy-efficient motion control for connected and autonomous vehicles, with particular emphasis on signalised intersection crossing using Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication. His work combines data-driven modelling, model-based control, and real-world validation to develop methods that can be assessed systematically in simulation and on instrumented vehicles.
His research spans EV energy consumption modelling using system identification and machine learning, trajectory optimisation for signal crossing, and Model Predictive Control for closed-loop longitudinal control. A central part of his work is the development of reusable experimental workflows, including Vehicle-in-the-Loop evaluation to link simulation results with real-world testing.
