We accept a range of qualifications at the appropriate academic level.
Our current A level entry requirements for the BSc (Hons) Psychology course are:
A mix of science and arts or social science subjects can be a good preparation. If you are taking a science A-level or Psychology A-level the entry requirements are likely to be AAB. There are no compulsory subjects at A Level. General Studies and Critical Thinking are excluded.
If you have been eligible for the Access to Southampton (A2S) scheme, we may make an alternative conditional offer, typically BBB.
If you are taking IB and depending on subjects taken at Higher Level, we require 34 points, with 17 at higher level, or 36 points with 18 at higher level.
In all cases, we also look for a broad range of GCSE subjects, including English and Mathematics at a minimum of Grade C.
For BTEC, Access, 16-19 Diploma and other UK and EU qualifications, we consider applications on an individual basis.
International applicants
We welcome applications from international students with good qualifications for any of our courses. Examples are:
All applicants will be considered on an individual basis. International students who do not currently meet our entry requirements may be able to join this course on successful completion of our International Foundation Year. For more information visit the International Foundation Year course page.
If English is not your first language, you will need to have already reached a satisfactory standard in an approved test in English, such as Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English grade C or above, IELTS grade 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in each component.
This is a challenging course, requiring a high level of commitment. For this reason, we require evidence of recent serious and successful relevant study. Competency in mathematics is necesary, so you will need a grade C in GCSE Mathmatics and a grade C in English.
However, as a mature student you will not be alone. In recent years, nearly 1 in 10 of our UK/EU intake have been over 21.
The BSc (Hons) Psychology and related courses are offered on a full-time basis only.
