The Centre for Risk Research recently hosted a very successful and well attended guest seminar by Alastair Allison, Chief Risk Officer at Zurich Insurance Plc (UK).

Alastair gained his MSc in Corporate Risk & Security Management from Southampton University in 2005 and has since enjoyed a very successful career as Risk Consultant, Risk Manager and Head of Risk Services prior to attaining his current positon. Drawing on that wealth of experience, Alastair discussed the broad range of matters risk managers need to consider. His talk spanned risk frameworks, organisational culture, board behaviours, business dynamics, solvency, risk culture, risk appetite, Brexit and a range of financial and operational risks. Speaking to the next generation of Risk Managers present in the audience, Alastair advised that his experience had impressed upon him the need for Risk Managers to step out of their comfort zones and to succeed through boldness.
