I was drawn to Southampton on an open day back in 2010. I fell in love with the campus on that day. The campus looked spectacular, I was enthralled by the lecture theatres and the campus just had that perfect university feel to it.
Studying at Southampton was definitely one of the best decisions I've made. I've had countless experiences and made many lifelong friends along the way.
Like most A-level students I wasn't completely sure what I wanted to do with my life. Deciding to study Biomedical sciences was definitely one of the best decisions I made. I chose to study here originally because I knew I was fond of science and the modules looked like they'd really gauge my interest.
I've enjoyed many things whilst studying at the University but what comes to mind is that my course is very practical based. The hours that you'll spend in the lab are very different to what other universities offer and you really get the opportunity to get your hands dirty.
Studying biomedical sciences here is very different to other universities as it is quite research focused and you get to learn a lot about cutting edge research. There is an emphasis on the practical side of the course throughout the years, which really brings science to life. Things you learn about in lectures can be applied in labs, allowing you to really put what you've learnt into context.
During my time here I been involved with a few of the many societies that Southampton university have to offer, ranging from volunteering to boxing for me. I have had the opportunity to represent my student cohort by being a course representative. This role allowed me to work with colleagues and staff to try and make the courses the best they can be. I've also been a part of the biological society committee, really trying to bring everyone within biological sciences together.
After my degree I hope to go on to study medicine or undertake a PhD. I really enjoy learning and would love to stay at University for longer.
