Politics and International RelationsPart of Economic, Social and Political Science

Politics and International Relations has an international reputation for research excellence delivering real-world impact. Research is embedded in everything we do, especially our teaching.

Using an interdisciplinary approach, our research offers a critical analysis of political decisions made in this country and abroad, which affect people’s sense of place, their movement and their human rights. Whether it is exploring global election polling and explaining recent misses of political polls in the UK or examining government policies on managed migration or measuring regional policies on access to healthcare in South America, our researchers are asking important questions about how politics and international relations affect our lives.

Our research and our experts, some of whom are among the top 20 highly cited political scientists in the world, also help policymakers make informed decisions by providing quality evidence that changes political methodologies or acts in an advisory role to parliamentary committees.

Whatever the output, our research aims to challenge and inspire those with political power to address some of the world’s most pressing problems for the benefit of everyone.
