(1) Construction and development of container port facilities: The optimal supply and timing of port facilities, considering the role and characteristics of ports, as well as demand and supply dynamics. I am particularly interested in the infrastructure needed for efficient port operations, including terminals, hinterlands, and near-port transportation systems, such as roads and railways.
(2) Operation and productivity of container terminals: How to enhance port productivity by analysing the operational structure and governance of container terminals. This includes examining how many terminals are in operation at a given port and how various stakeholders collaborate to create synergies that improve overall efficiency.
(3) Global container logistics with a focus on transhipment networks in North East Asia: I am also interested in global container logistics, particularly the transhipment network in North East Asia. My research examines the evolving trends and major flows in the region, with a focus on how these have changed before and after the pandemic.
Application of GIS methods and techniques to research relating to public transport and active travel.
Development of open source tools for transport planning applications, for example the Station Demand Forecasting Tool and the GB Traffic Data Explorer.
Rail demand modelling and appraisal with a focus on developing improved aggregate models to forecast demand for new railway stations.
