What our students think

One of my Southampton highlights would be my opportunity to study abroad in America for one Semester during my final year. I learnt so much about myself and I was able to study my course under a whole new educational system as well as undertake new modules.

At Southampton I have become more confident in meeting new people. Alongside my studies I worked as a student ambassador, which was a great opportunity to meet other students and engage with school children. I have gained in-depth knowledge in modules that interest me such as 'Gender in Society', and I also feel more confident in using research methods such as statistical analysis

I have enjoyed the experience of studying at Southampton, and have found many of the lecturers to be supportive, easy to access, and encouraging.

Our lecturers encourage us to think critically about aspects such as society and what happens around us. This insight has sparked my interest in the impact of current issues on us as individuals

I took part in the Social Sciences Buddy Scheme for the new Freshers this year which was really rewarding and fun.

Sociology is something that needs to be taught at an earlier age - it opens up the mind to other subjects. My interest stemmed from A level and I have never looked back.

Being a Russell Group university, Southampton has a prestigious reputation with employees and so attaining a degree from Southampton has helped me in the long run of gaining employment.

I have been offered a job by the Metropolitan Police service. I largely attribute my time at Southampton to my success in joining the police due to the confidence and open-mindedness I developed at university.

I found that lecturers and University staff eased any fears or anxieties that I had by giving fantastic support. There are plenty of opportunities to speak with personal tutors and lecturers, and both students and staff are friendly and approachable

I found that the University of Southampton had the friendliest atmosphere and the most exciting course syllabus.

I absolutely loved undertaking the dissertation project in final year; I researched agricultural crime and spent time driving around the countryside interviewing farmers about their experiences of crime.

The facilities and staff at Southampton were superb. I was able to control which areas of Sociology I really wanted to learn about through a wide choice of different modules.

I have been able to participate in curriculum innovation modules that bring together experts from all over the University to tackle some of the leading issues in the world today.

Because of the support I don’t feel much home sickness. Think big, don’t be afraid to lose, life is all about challenges.
