At Southampton I have become more confident in meeting new people. Alongside my studies I worked as a student ambassador, which was a great opportunity to meet other students and engage with school children. I have gained in-depth knowledge in modules that interest me such as 'Gender in Society', and I also feel more confident in using research methods such as statistical analysis

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?
I come from Bournemouth so I partly liked the idea that I could go away to university but was near home! It was a Russel group university and I was confident that it was good university and would be respected by potential employers.

What is it like studying here?
The course had a lot of scope to pick modules that interested you and I also did a minor in English which meant I could balance both Sociology and English which I loved at sixth form. There was a variety of societies and I tried different ones each year.

Tell us about your study abroad experience?
I have wanted to study in Canada since starting University and I still can’t believe I actually did it! It was such a great experience living in a different country for four months. I really enjoyed some of the creative writing modules I had the chance to do there and I think I’ve really improved my writing skills.

How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?
At Southampton I have become more confident in meeting new people. I also worked as a student ambassador which was a great opportunity to meet other students and engage with school children. What is the city of Southampton like to live in?
I lived in Southampton for my second year and I found it had everything I needed. Portswood was a great hub for students, with plenty of great places to eat and nearby the city’s beautiful Common.
