About this course

Develop your French, German or Spanish and critical thinking skills as you explore how languages are created, learned and shaped.

You can study your chosen language on this 4-year degree with our expert language tutors, working towards native-like proficiency and cultural fluency in both spoken and written language.

You’ll combine this with linguistics, studying a range of different disciplines including sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, phonetics, morphology and syntax, discourse analysis and language disorders.

This programme gives you the chance to study cultural topics linked to your chosen language, including migration and displacement, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and film and cultural memory.

You can take careers-focused modules to help open career paths. You’ll examine topics such as translation and interpretation.

You’ll spend a year of your degree abroad on a workplace, teaching or university placement. We have opportunities all over the world including Europe, South America and North America. You can develop your language skills in a new environment while learning about the French, German or Spanish-speaking world's culture, history and thought.
