Southampton has provided me the opportunity to travel; be it as part of the Study Abroad exchange programme, the many diverse field trips within my course in BSc Geography or those offered from various societies across the University.

Why did you choose to study at the Southampton?

As a Russell Group University, Southampton has always had a good reputation. I knew the staff would be at the forefront of research and as such I would be taught to the utmost standard.

What is it like studying here?

The University campus has a great atmosphere. There is plenty of greenspace and lots of amenities, providing opportunities to both study and relax- whichever you need! I have loved living in halls of residence and getting around the city has been easy with the Unilink Bus Pass. My course has been engaging; filled with stimulating lectures, interesting assignments and fantastic field trips. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend studying at Southampton!

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

Having the opportunity to discover an area of research that I have a real passion for. Studying Geography at Southampton has introduced me to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, which are topics I knew very little about prior to taking the course at university level. I was so inspired by my lecturers, who are leaders in these fields, that I am continuing to further my interest by returning to Southampton for a Master’s in Applied GIS and Remote Sensing following my undergraduate degree.

Did you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?

Throughout my degree I had the opportunity to study University of Southampton Modules (UOSM) that covered diverse topics including Living with Environmental Change, Global Health and Global Challenges. Not only were the topics thought-provoking, I gained new insights and a different perspective from being taught by lecturers outside of my core subject area and working with students across different year groups and degree types.

I also took an intensive language course in French, offered to us students for free as part of the Language Opportunity at Southampton. It was such a fantastic experience and has been an asset to my CV.

What have been your Southampton highlights?

One of the many highlights of my degree has been the opportunity to study at Western University in Canada, uniquely offered as part of Southampton’s study abroad exchange programme. It was a phenomenal experience that broadened my perspective both within my degree subject and general life through engaging with professors and building a large network of friends that I remain in contact with today.

What opportunities has studying at Southampton provided you with?

Obtaining a degree from the University of Southampton has provided me the opportunity for a successful career in whatever I choose to do. The support from my lecturers, careers advisors and other staff members at the University throughout my time studying have given me the tools I need to achieve success as a graduate.

Furthermore, Southampton has provided me the opportunity to travel; be it as part of the Study Abroad exchange programme, the many diverse field trips within my course in BSc Geography or those offered from various societies across the University.
