In situ and Remote Intelligent Sensing

The Centre of Excellence for In situ and Remote Intelligent Sensing (IRIS) is the world’s only research hub dedicated to developing intelligent, connected, self-powered sensing systems to operate in some of Earth’s most remote, harsh environments, providing a better understanding of the world around us, and helping to tackle some of the most pressing environmental and human challenges we face today.

The systems will be designed to withstand the extremes of Earth’s environmental frontiers - from deep oceans and polar regions to the edges of space - to provide previously unobtainable information about natural phenomena such as space weather, earthquakes and tsunamis.

IRIS looks at how intelligence can be applied in the most remote and extreme regions of our planet to help generate insights about our environmental frontiers."
