Energy & Resources

The ocean is an important source of food, energy and other resources. 50% of Europe's tidal energy resource comes from the UK. Wave and tidal energy could contribute up to 20% of the UK's electricity demand. The UK has over 6,500 registered fishing vessels with approximately 12,500 registered fishermen.  In the UK we eat £5.65 billion worth of seafood a year, weighing in at 380,000 tons.

Our interests range from understanding of the basic sciences influencing the search for energy and seabed resources, the technology for managing and extracting them and the legal instruments for exploiting such resources.  Areas include:
