The maritime environment is one rich in renewable energy sources. Within this group, particular focus is on the on-going engineering design challenges of:
The aim is to apply innovative solutions to the complex interaction between environmental conditions (wind, wave and tide) and the performance of ships, underwater vehicles, fixed and floating structures.
Some examples of engineering systems upon which this fundamental research is applied are:
The laboratory is staffed jointly with the Fluid Structure Interactions research group. The expertise of the research team lies in the areas of hydrodynamics, experimental and computational fluid dynamics, maritime design, ocean engineering science, ship dynamics, ship resistance, propulsion and seakeeping.
