Dr Vuong Phan is a Lecturer in Operational Research within Mathematical Sciences School at the University of Southampton.

Dr Vuong Phan joined the University of Southampton in September 2019. Prior to that, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Vienna (2018-2019), Research Fellow at the Vienna University of Technology (2017-2018), Austria and a Research Associate at the University of Luxembourg (2015-2016), Luxembourg. Dr Vuong Phan received his PhD in Applied Mathematics at the Vietnam National University HCMC in 2014.

His research interests are solution methods for continuous optimisation, dynamical systems, optimal control, variational inequalities and equilibrium problems with applications in engineering, economics and biochemistry.

  • 2018-2019: University of Vienna (Austria) Dynamical system and algorithms for solving optimisation problems and variational inequalities, ADMM and primal-dual methods
  • 2017-2018: Vienna University of Technology (Austria) Optimal control with bang-bang solutions, Model predictive control
  • 2015-2016: University of Luxembourg (Luxembourg) Optimisation problems arising in Biochemistry, DC programming and Boosted DC Algorithm (BDCA), Levenberg-Marquardt and Newton methods.
