Dr Martin Warner

I am module lead for Foundations of Physiotherapy Practice, a year 1 module on the BSc Physiotherapy programme. The module's aims are to develop strong foundational theoretical knowledge and practical skills that underpin student's future practice as a physiotherapist. They have the opportunity to apply and consolidate their learning from other anatomy and physiology modules and develop this further by exploring the biopsychosocial and cultural factors underpinning human function. Students begin to develop their skills in communication, movement analysis and principles of rehabilitation. They are guided to develop core skills of professionalism, safe and reflective practice as a therapist.

I have a keen interest in developing novel teaching methods utilising technologies such as animation, virtual reality and augemented reality.

In 2002 I completed an undergraudate degree in Sport and Exercise and Science and subsequently completed a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science on the Biomechanics pathway in 2003 at University College Chictester.

I began working at the University of Southampton in 2004 as a laboratory technician for Sport Science. A year later I obtained the post of Experimental Officer for the School of Health Professions and Rehabilitation Science (which later became the School of Health Sciences). In this role I was responsible for management of the research labroaotries and began developing a research profile. I undertook my PhD in shoulder biomechanics, part-time, whilst in this role.

Following completion of my PhD in 2012, I became a Senior Research Fellow in the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis.

Following completion of the fellowship I became a lecturer within the physiotherapy and contniued by research and education portfolio, culmiating in promotion to Associate Professor in 2023.
