About
Dr Frederic Y. Gardes is Associate Professor at the Optoelectronic Research centre at the University of Southampton. Frederic's research activity covers CMOS photonics and high-speed active optical devices in silicon, germanium and mid index waveguides. He has been working on international and national research programmes, such as the FP6 “ePIXnet”, the FP7 “HELIOS” IP project, the EPSRC “UK Silicon Photonics” project EP/F001428/2, “MIGRATION” EP/L01162X/1, the First grant “Hermes” EP/K02423X/1, and multiple industrial research contracts as principal investiogator and co investigator. Frederic is currently the Southampton PI on the €4M H2020 COSMICC project and Co-I on the EPSRC funded projects “CORNERSTONE” EP/N013247/1, the platform Grant “Electronic-Photonic Convergence” EP/R003076/1 and “Rockley Photonics and the University of Southampton: A Prosperity Partnership” EP/R003076/1. Frederic has authored more than 250 publications, 96 invited talks and multiple patents in the field of silicon photonics, he is committee and subcommittee member of several conferences (IEEE, SPIE, CLEO USA and OSA) and editor for the OSA journal Photonics Research.
