About
Dr Ioannis Zeimpekis, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton. He received his PhD in microelectronic systems design from the University of Southampton in 2012. His research spans the fields of electronics, photonics, and material science. He has more than 13 years of nanofabrication experience and has worked with a wide range of materials and processes for applications including MEMS, electrical biosensors and reconfigurable photonics. Recently he has worked on materials for plasmonic devices, the development of wafer scale processes for 2D materials and the development of novel low-loss phase-change materials for optoelectronic applications. Ioannis is the author of more than 55 publications in the field of electronics, photonics and material science.

Current research
Dr Ioannis Zeimpekis leads a team within the Novel Glass group currently focusing on:
- High electrical performance 2D materials manufacturable at a wafer scale
- Lossless phase change materials for optoelectronic applications
The team has a wide and versatile portfolio of materials that has applied in research and commercial applications such as flexible electronics, energy harvesting and photonics processors.
We are always open to new collaborations and our vertical integration allows us to contribute by supplying materials, processes, devices and characterisation to our partners.
