Centre for Risk Research welcomes Jize Yan

Jize Yan

Jize Yan recently joined the Centre for Risk Research, having taken up the post of Associate Professor of Microsystems and Sensor Systems in Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton in January 2016.

Jize received his first degree (2003) from Tsinghua University in China, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge (2007). He has also held positions as a Research Assistant, Research Associate, Senior Research Associate and Principal Investigator at the University of Cambridge. His research work has resulted in 80+ peer-reviewed publications, 9 patents and a number of best paper awards. As principal or co-investigator, he has secured £12M+ in research grants from various sources. He has co-founded two companies in the fields of Wireless Sensor Networks (Wisen Innovation Ltd, www.wiseninnovation.co.uk) and Energy Harvesting (8Power Ltd, www.8power.co.uk) to develop industrial applications. His students have recently formed a Digital Tracking and Big Data company for Pharmaceutical Applications (Serket Technology Ltd, www.healthera.co.uk).

Jize is also a member of Southampton Nanofabrication Centre (www.southampton-nanofab.com), and a member of Zepler Institute (www.zeplerinstitute.ac.uk). He is working closely with the National Infrastructure Lab (Southampton). Jize also has a joint lab with UC Berkeley (Smart Infrastructure) and collaborations with the Chinese Academy of Science and Singapore CREATE Centre (Energy).

Jize said “I am really excited about joining the CRR team because I am keen to develop joint projects developing sensing technology to enhance risk management in the fields of infrastructure, healthcare, and energy”.
