Ancient World Studies

Postgraduate study

Depending on your interests, there are different avenues open to you to study the Ancient World at Postgraduate level, which are run through the individual departments.

At Masters level, you can take one of a number of specialist programmes. If your interest is in the documentary and iconographic evidence, then you can take the Ancient History modules within the MA History; if you want to specialise in the material evidence you might wish to study the MA Maritime Archaeology. The flexible structure of the Humanities programmes means that you are able to take modules from across the Faculty, putting together your own unique programme of study.

At PhD level, you have the opportunity to join the thriving community of the Humanities Graduate School. PhD students studying the Ancient World are primarily located in the Archaeology and History departments. We are part of the South, West and Wales doctoral college, and currently have co-supervised students with Bristol and Reading. For further information, please see the Humanities Graduate School website.
