Whilst there is a strong accounting focus, the course’s varied technical content prepares you for many other financial service professions. I spent my placement year at an investment bank, followed by a summer internship at an asset manager, and subsequently accepted a graduate offer from the latter.

Southampton is globally recognised as a very good university, a true campus university, but right next to a large vibrant city and a large student body. I also wanted to be in the south of the UK but not too far from London.

I'd say the people I've met during my time here has been my main highlight. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and they all bring their own experiences. I also enjoy the vast range of sports and fitness classes both the Student Union and gym offer.

In terms of career and professional development, I have just come back from a placement year with Morgan Stanley and a summer internship with Schroders. During second year I went to a J.P. Morgan Insight Day, and attended a guest lecture from Justin Urquhart Stewart. I have also been involved in the Buddy scheme, tour guiding, was a course representative, and a number of sport societies.

A number of high profile speaker series' are organised, but more importantly I undertook a Placement Year with Morgan Stanley and then a Summer Internship with Schroders and have since accepted a graduate offer from Schroders.

My course offers a clear sense of relevance to the real world and the profession I wish to go into. The material gives a broad insight into the world of finance, and then allows you to specialise through module choices. Lecturers have a genuine interest in their subject.

There have been plenty of opportunities to study modules outside of my subject area. However, I don’t through my own volition as I wanted to take a more purist approach to my course.

The Business School hosts many career fairs and other events put on by employers. Further to guest speakers at lectures, these events allow you to speak one-to-one with future employers, get a feeling for the company, and whether it may be where you want to end up after graduating.

The University of Southampton has provided me with an ideal starting platform that has allowed me to achieve my immediate career aspirations.
