Hi, I'm Georgia Searle and I studied BSc Politics within Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.

The opportunities at the University of Southampton are fantastic. Most importantly the University increased my confidence which helped me get a place on a graduate scheme.

Q: Why did you choose to undertake your studies in Politics at the University of Southampton?

The first thing that drew me towards the University of Southampton was the course being a Bachelor of Science (BSc); you therefore learn invaluable skills such as statistics. An open day at Southampton really sealed my choice for me – the diversity that the course offered in terms of topics was impressive and the staff were really friendly.

Q: What did you enjoy about studying Politics at Southampton?

I enjoy the diversity that politics offers. In first year you are given the opportunity to take modules outside of politics so I took a Spanish course. Then as you move further into your degree there is great deal more diversity in the subject which allows you to tailor your degree to your preferences. For instance, I found that I was very interested in International Relations and especially the third world so in my second and third year I took modules related to this.

Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

The opportunities that the University of Southampton offers are fantastic. I was able to become a Course Representative which means that I spoke to my peers and found out their thoughts on the course and then conveyed their opinions, problems or positives to members of staff who really took our opinions on board to try and improve the students’ experiences. There are also unlimited opportunities to join clubs and societies; I joined the politics society SUPA which allowed me to meet new people on my course, and I also joined some charity societies where we fundraised and raised awareness.
Most importantly the University has increased my confidence which has allowed me to get a place on a graduate scheme. The careers advisors at Uni are amazing! They are more than willing to help, and they organise many careers events.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

I have secured a place on the Enterprise-Rent-a-Car Graduate Scheme.
