Volunteering

As well as completing your course, there are many opportunities to get involved with a range of University events that will develop your key skills and provide valuable experience that could aid your future career.

Helping at Ocean and Earth Day
Helping at Ocean and Earth Day

Many volunteering opportunities are focused around the outreach activities run in Ocean and Earth Science. Students have the opportunity to pass their knowledge and enthusiasm on to school-aged pupils to inspire their interest in ocean and Earth science from an early age.

Many of our current students also help at visit days, showing prospective students around the National Oceanography Centre Southampton and explaining first hand what it is like to study at the University.

There are opportunities to help out at Ocean and Earth day, an annual open day where our science is on display to the public, and to get involved in school visits to the Centre, where you can supervise school-aged pupils in activities that will promote their awareness of ocean and Earth science.

Some of our students also return to their former schools and colleges to give presentations about what it is like to study ocean and Earth science at University, and to inspire the next generation of oceanographers, marine biologists, geologists and geophysicists!

Our students find volunteering opportunities fun and a great way to develop key skills, as well as providing an extra dimension of experience for their CV.
