“Directing risk management in organizations” presented to CHEIA

Matthew Leitch of the Centre for Risk Research recently presented our guidance document “Directing risk management in organizations” at an event for the Council of Higher Education Internal Auditors (CHEIA), Southern Region.

CHEIA were keen to learn about new thinking on risk management and about approaches that contrast with the risk management requirements currently imposed on universities by HEFCE’s Accounts Direction. In particular, some participants explained that the current arrangements use a risk register to carry out what feels more like a review than an active integral risk management process. The approach taken in the CRR's "Directing risk management in organizations" guide is much broader and more flexible. The participants commented that the CRR guide was both a breath of fresh air and as a means of clearing a conceptual hurdle.

The presentation was interactive session that resulted in an agreement to hold a follow-up session in which the CRR will provide examples of audit tests that might be used to turn the CRR criteria into an audit review.

The CRR is keen to make an impact beyond academia. Another presentation is scheduled for January 2017 at the next meeting of the Control and Risk Self-Assessment (CRSA) Forum. Attendance is free but places are limited. To find out more, please visit: http://www.crsaforum.com
