The Centre for Risk Research (CRR) is set to develop closer ties with the ‘Association for Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce’ (AIRMIC), one of the UK’s leading risk management professional associations.

This decision follows a recent meeting between Julia Graham (Technical Director of AIRMIC), Kin Ly (Research and Development Manager at AIRMIC) and several members of the Centre for Risk Research.

AIRMIC has over 1,100 members including FTSE-listed companies, and seeks to advance the risk and insurance industry by supporting professional growth, promoting risk management and insurance on the corporate agenda and providing thought leadership.

A number of exciting prospects for cooperation between AIRMIC and the CRR were discussed at the meeting. Director of the CRR, Professor Johnnie Johnson, commented “this is a fantastic opportunity for us to help AIRMIC with their work, and in so doing, to provide more high profile support to the UK’s risk and insurance profession”.

The strategic partnership between CRR and AIRMIC will significantly enhance the employment prospects of students studying risk at in the University of Southampton. In particular, AIRMIC’s ‘Growing the Profession’ initiative aims to support tomorrow’s leading UK Risk and Insurance managers. Hence, AIRMIC have kindly offered to sponsor a number of Southampton students to attend their prestigious annual conference, their fast track training programme and their annual ERM forum. This will provide the students with the opportunity to network with senior risk and insurance professionals.
