On this 4-year course, you'll build a strong foundation in programming, mathematics, design and robotics fundamentals, before further specialising in an area of your interest. You'll also learn how to tackle industry-informed challenges through practice-led robotics modules, and effectively use machine learning and artificial intelligence.
All of our MEng Robotics students take part in a group design project, set by a real industry or academic customer – giving you a hands-on opportunity to bring your ideas to life and prepare for specialist roles in a fast-moving field.

MEng Robotics is available with a paid industrial placement year, so you can gain experience in a professional engineering environment and return with the skills and confidence to take your next step. We also offer BEng Robotics and BEng Robotics with Industrial Placement Year courses.

The structure of our master's degree in robotics reflects the broad-based nature of robotics as a discipline. It addresses many core engineering topics, with an emphasis on how these topics are applied in robotics environments.
This MEng Robotics course looks primarily at key aspects of robotics engineering such as:
The first 2 years of this master's degree in robotics consider engineering fundamentals, particularly in mechanical engineering contexts. These 2 years share some content with our mechanical engineering courses, but also offer robotics-specific modules which apply broader principles to robotics problems.
Between either your second and third year, or your third and fourth year, you have the option to complete an industrial placement year. While we can provide guidance and support, you must organise this placement.
In your last 2 years, you will have the opportunity to study methods which are relevant to robotic perception, manoeuvring and control, such as computational and AI methods. Projects and dedicated modules also allow you to explore a wide range of different robotic application domains.
The fourth year of this course offers a range of optional module choices that delve further into specific key topics or application domains. There is also greater emphasis on applying robotics knowledge and skills to real-world problems as you progress through the course.
We've designed MEng Robotics in accordance with the Engineering Council requirements as a pathway to become a chartered professional engineer.
