About this course

Learn how to design intelligent systems that interact with the real world on our master's in robotics.

On this 4-year course, you'll build a strong foundation in programming, mathematics, design and robotics fundamentals, before further specialising in an area of your interest. You'll also learn how to tackle industry-informed challenges through practice-led robotics modules, and effectively use machine learning and artificial intelligence.

All of our MEng Robotics students take part in a group design project, set by a real industry or academic customer – giving you a hands-on opportunity to bring your ideas to life and prepare for specialist roles in a fast-moving field.

With access to extensive multimillion-pound facilities, you'll step into labs built for experimentation and innovation. Work with advanced robotics platforms, including:

  • robot arms
  • mobile robots on land and water
  • embedded sensing and vision systems
  • control and simulation tools

You'll also master SolidWorks, MATLAB, Python programming and digital twins – equipping you with full-stack robotics skills.

As you ultimately learn how to design the next generation of robotics systems, you'll gain the skills needed to succeed in a wide range of industries and disciplines, such as:

  • autonomous systems development
  • robotics engineering
  • machine learning
  • control systems
  • intelligent product design

MEng Robotics is available with a paid industrial placement year, so you can gain experience in a professional engineering environment and return with the skills and confidence to take your next step. We also offer BEng Robotics and BEng Robotics with Industrial Placement Year courses.

We regularly review our courses to ensure and improve quality. This course may be revised as a result of this. Any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. Find out why, when, and how we might make changes.

Our courses are regulated in England by the Office for Students (OfS).
