Daniel N Drummond MSci Geophysics with year abroad
Geophysical Consultant at RSK Group plc

The University of Southampton attracted me because it offered a course not available at most other universities; geophysics. Other attractions included the coastal setting, good weather and the mixture of a campus and city university.
I completed a year abroad at Penn State University in the US. The year was full of countless great experiences and I would recommend it to anyone.
I chose geophysics because I have always had an interest in rocks; however I am not a lover of fossils. There by, taking out the biology and concentrating on the more physical side of geology, geophysics seemed a natural choice. I also liked Southampton’s geophysics course because it offered the chance to study abroad for a year whilst still working towards your degree. I particularly think the department’s strong point is the partnership at NOCS, enabling world class equipment to be available.
Southampton is a great place for a university. The location of being near London, The New Forest (perfect for long cycles to the pub) and the Isle of Wight means there can always be something to look forward to.
At present, I am a Geophysical Consultant at RSK Group plc.
