CENV6160 Architectural Engineering Project

Module Overview

The project is a learning experience that enables you to apply your knowledge to the design of a complex building /structure in an urban context that responds to (a) social, (b) technical and (c) environmental/contextual aspects of a built environment problem. You will negotiate with your 'client', be it your supervisor or an external sponsor, develop your brief, plan your project, present and develop your work through drawn/written and oral presentation maintaining a clear record of design development. At all times you will monitor your progress to ensure you are achieving the objectives set while ensuring quality of output.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching methods are mainly consultations with your supervisor normally held weekly, and occasional meetings with sponsors/client. There will be an interim ‘crit’ just after the Easter vacation and a final ‘crit’ at the end of Semester 2 which both provide opportunities for presentation of your design and to receive feedback on it. Learning activities include creative problem solving, researching and may include a site visit to the locality of the structure.

Costs associated with this module

Students are responsible for meeting the cost of essential textbooks, and of producing such essays, assignments, laboratory reports and dissertations as are required to fulfil the academic requirements for each programme of study.

Printing and Photocopying Costs

Students are expected to cover the costs associated with the printing of drawings and graphic presentations. These are typically expected to be of the order of £100 per student, also depending on the quality of printing chosen
