Aims and Objectives
Module Aims
The aim of the Critical Inquiry Research Protocol module is to enable you to build on the research skills developed in your previous programme of study and to prepare you to undertake health services research independently at Master's level. Its successful completion is pre-requisite to you embarking on your own independent research project in the Critical Inquiry Research Project module. Specific opportunities will be provided to enable you to appreciate a range of research methods commonly used in health services research and differences between an Honours level and a Master's level research project. The learning opportunities provided will enable you to obtain specific skills required to undertake research at this academic level.

This module will cover: • Qualitative and quantitative research methods, including underlying philosophy and approaches to sampling, data collection, data analysis and interpretation • Ethics and research governance • Advice on writing protocols
Special Features
This is a joint module undertaken by pre-registration healthcare students on graduate entry programmes within the School. Within joint modules you will gain skills in collaborative working as well as learning with, from and about a wide range of professional groups.

This module involves taught session relating to research in the context of health, why research matters in health care, and research methods. This will be supported by workshops to help you develop your research protocol alongside supervisory support.
