Training

NNUF-EXACT aims to provide a comprehensive training platform for project managers, site engineers and radiochemists. Our training programme has been developed in collaboration with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), our EXACT training partner, and will deliver a practical, user-focused portfolio of courses on all aspects of nuclear characterisation, remediation and analysis. Delivery approach and content can be tailored to your requirements and can include on-line/on-demand or on-site courses.

Forthcoming training courses

EXACT are currently offering the following training courses in 2024 (all hosted at EXACT, Southampton):

Introduction to Radiochemistry - two-day modular CPD course including basic laboratory techniques, radiometric methods, sample preparation, alpha / gamma spectrometry, LSC and QA.
26-27th February 2024.

Please email us at NNUF-EXACT@soton.ac.uk if you would like more information or to book onto any of the above courses.

Future courses will also include:

Management of radioanalytical projects for end users

This one-day course will provide a guide to project managers and decommissioning engineers covering the requirements for effectively running and managing radioanalytical projects. This course will also cover the theory behind the radiochemical separations carried out in external laboratories necessary for the determination of difficult-to-measure radionuclides including the benefits and limitations of different radiometric detection methods.

The session will cover:

Practical radiochemistry

This five-day course will focus on the practical aspects of radiochemistry, with the majority of the course spent in laboratories. The course will cover sampling techniques and preservation, scaling factors and on-site measurement of radionuclides and comparison with offsite measurement capabilities, with practical sessions on radiochemical and radioanalytical methods, including the generation of results that will be analysed as part of the course.

Environmental remediation

This one-day online course will focus on environmental sources of radioactivity and methods for remediation or risk management, including from soil and groundwater environments.
