Research project: Quaternary sea-level changes

Currently Active:

Sea level changes in the Quaternary record the variations in global ice volume. Other records provide insight into concomitant variations in the atmospheric carbon dioxide and methane concentrations, and fluctuations in regional to global temperature, hydrology, and deep-water ventilation.

To understand the interactions between the world's great ice sheets and these critical aspects of the wider global climate system, it is essential that we develop a detailed knowledge about the magnitudes, timing, and rates of sea-level variability. We have developed a new method for the development of stratigraphically continuous records of sea-level change, using oxygen isotope data from the Red Sea.
