I am a Professor of Economics, and an applied labour economist with interests in the economics of international migration and refugees. In 2020, I was awarded an OBE for services to economic policy. I was a member of the UK Migration Advisory Committee (2012–2021). I am a Fellow and Trustee of the Academy of Social Sciences Council, and a founding Fellow of the Royal Economic Society. I am a member of the REF2029 Sub-Panel 16 (Economics & Econometrics). Previously, I was a member of the ESRC Council (2022–2025), the Council of the Royal Economic Society (2020–2025), and the REF2021 Sub-Panel 16 (Economics & Econometrics), and Chair of the Economic Research Forum Board of Trustees. I am also a research fellow at IZA, CReAM, and ERF, and a member of the Migration Observatory Expert Advisory Board at Oxford University. I have acted as an advisor to several international organisations, including the EC, the World Bank, UNDP, the African Development Bank, and the OECD.
