Current research
Amin’s current research aims to improve understanding of shared anchor behaviour for floating offshore wind farms. Shared anchors have the potential to reduce the number of foundation elements required in large offshore wind developments, helping to reduce material use, seabed footprint, and capital expenditure.
His project investigates how shared anchors respond to complex multidirectional and cyclic loading from multiple mooring lines. Through numerical modelling, experimental development, and physical modelling, the research seeks to identify key mechanisms controlling anchor performance and to support future design guidance for reliable and efficient floating offshore wind infrastructure.

Biography
Amin Rashidi Mehrabadi is a postgraduate research student in Geotechnical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Southampton. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Chair in Emerging Technologies in Intelligent & Resilient Ocean Engineering (IROE), where his research focuses on offshore geotechnics for floating wind energy.
Amin’s PhD investigates the geotechnical behaviour of shared anchors for offshore wind foundations, with particular focus on multidirectional and cyclic loading in sand. His work combines advanced finite element modelling, Python-based automation, physical modelling, and experimental system development to improve understanding of soil-structure interaction under complex offshore loading conditions.
Before joining the University of Southampton, Amin completed an MSc in Coastal, Ports, and Marine Structural Engineering at the University of Tehran in 2022. His MSc research investigated the lateral behaviour of offshore wind turbine monopiles in calcareous sand, including the effects of scour and combined vertical-lateral loading.
