The University of Southampton
Southampton Centre for Nineteenth-Century Research

Southampton High Street circa 1880

The SCNR foregrounds work on ‘the long nineteenth century' (1789-1914) being carried out by more than 30 researchers across several Faculties and a wide range of disciplines (Archaeology, Art History, English, Film, History, Marine Archaeology, Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy, Social Sciences). Our members have long-established links with many external institutions, organisations and archives internationally, and contribute to a diverse range of interdisciplinary projects. We welcome the contributions of external partners, and are always seeking new ones.
