Child and Youth membership

Sport and Wellbeing also offers memberships for 4-15 year olds and 16-17 year olds – we’re proud to help kids keep fit and active. Our great value Family and Youth memberships allow young people to take advantage of our excellent facilities, at competitive rates.

Sport and Wellbeing members may take out membership for children aged 4 - 15 years. Proof of age must be provided on request.  Access restrictions apply to all under 16's and children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied in our facilities by a responsible adult at all times.

For 4-15 years olds the child's membership will run alongside the parent's membership and expire on the same date, regardless of the date of purchase.

Age Restrictions

All children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times when using our facilities.

Child membership can only be purchased for the child by an adult holding Frequent Fitness or Peak Performer membership.

Membership will automatically be cancelled if the adult membership is cancelled.  A pro-rata refund will be issued (calculate to the last day of the month of cancellation)

A colour passport photograph will be required with the application form in order to produce a membership ID card. Members in this category will not have access to the facilities with a Smart Card and must bring their membership ID card to reception to gain access.

Membership Includes:

  • Swimming in the Jubilee Sports Centre swimming pool during designated general swimming sessions (Must be accompanied by an adult at all times - see Age Restrictions)
  • Indoor Sports - playing and spectating of indoor sports in the Jubilee Sports Hall when accompanied by an adult member
  • Tennis - playing and spectating of tennis on the outdoor tennis courts at Avenue Campus or Wide Lane Sports Grounds when accompanied by an adult member

For all activities the child's membership is time restricted as per the adult membership (i.e. no access 16:00-20:00 is adult membership is Frequent Fitness)

Customers will need to apply for a Sport and Wellbeing ID card, in conjunction with their membership application. Please supply a colour passport photograph (see back of ID form for guidance on a suitable photograph). The ID card application form can be found on the Useful Download section on the right hand side of this page.

All users wishing to use the Fitness Suite who have not used a similar facility before must attend a free Beginners' Fitness Induction. Free weights users are strongly recommended to book a Weights Induction.

Family Members aged 0 – 15 years must be accompanied by an adult member at all times. The adult must remain in the building unless the child is attending a course or special event.

Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied in the swimming pool by a responsible adult at all time (Ages 4-8 ratio 1 adult to 2 children, age under 4 ratio 1 adult to 1 child). For children over 8 an adult must be in the pool or reception area at all times whilst the child is swimming.

Children 0 - 15 are not permitted to book courts or pitches under any circumstances.  Family Members aged 4 - 15 years may play with an adult member on a pre-booked court in the Jubilee Sports Centre sports hall or on the tennis courts only.

Due to Southampton University Students' Union (SUSU) rules children under 16 years are not permitted to access the Squash Courts, Sports Hall or Martial Arts Studio on Level 1 of the Student Union (SU) building unless booked onto a bona fide Sport and Wellbeing course or event. Sport and Wellbeing members aged 16 -17 years may enter the SUSU building only if accompanied by an adult member.

Children under 16 years of age are not permitted to use the Fitness Suite/Gyms or attend Fitness Classes.

Children under 18 are not permitted to book onto coaching courses unless stated in the advertising literature.
