Jacob Trend is a Postgraduate research student within Bioligical Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Jacob studied his bachelor’s degree at the University of Sussex graduating in 2018 with First Class Honours. Following completion of his BSc, Jacob completed an MRes in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Birmingham (2018-2019). Jacob is currently completing his PhD at the University of Southampton (2019-Present).

Research interests


Dissertation: Co-localisation of key proteins in Alzheimer’s disease.

Internship: Research assistant, Shenzhen Open Innovation Labs. Shenzhen, China


Project 1) The role of calcium signalling in apoptosis induced compensatory proliferation.

Project 2) The regulation of methylation by JARID2 during keratinocyte differentiation.


My current research uses micro-computed tomography to investigate common aetiologies between Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis.

Supervisors: Dr Claire Clarkin, Dr Katrin Deinhardt, Dr Phillipp Schneider.
