Learning Outcomes

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Demonstrate safe, effective, compassionate, efficient and patient-centred practice in real-time as described in the relevant stage of the IRCP and with reference to appropriate national and local standards of practice such as published by the NHS (e.g. the principles and values that guide the NHS), your registration bodies (e.g. codes of conduct) and your professional bodies. This includes clinical reasoning and problem-solving, communication with the public and other health care professionals, collaborative working in multidisciplinary teams and the ability to justify your decisions.
• (a) reflect on your clinical practice with reference to high-quality clinical evidence, regulatory requirements of your registration bodies, professional and organisational cultures, ethical issues and the impact of delivery requirements on modern health and social care services; (b) demonstrate a positive self-image and an ethical and compelling account of your knowledge, skills, competencies, values and aspirations such as to a potential future employer

During the scheduled sessions, you will be involved in discussion on:

Understanding the organisation of, and policies relevant to, audiology services

o Current challenges, priorities and policies affecting service delivery

o Management and leadership within audiology and health services

Seeking employment as a qualified audiologist and hearing aid dispenser: first posts and future roles

o CV & personal statement to support job applications

o Interview skills

o Possible future careers in audiology

o Understanding CPD requirements, obligations and ways of meeting them

Clinical sessions including paediatrics and vestibular practice

Teaching and learning methods

You will have the opportunity to engage in:

• Employability/careers sessions and support activities (such as mock interviews)
• Lectures, seminars and case presentations (alongside Master’s students)
• Self-directed study
• Clinical sessions in a range of routine and specialist areas of audiology. You must undertake sufficient clinic sessions to meet the minimum requires of this stage of the IRCP (normally 10 days or less). You have the opportunity to sign-up to additional clinics beyond that.

Assessment strategy

You must pass both components of assessment individually to pass the module overall.

The PDP compromises two stages of assessment. The first judges your competence against pass vs. fail criteria; the second determines your mark if you pass the first stage.

Referral Method: you only need to refer on the component not passed at first attempt.

Method of repeat year: If you passed the IRCP at the first attempt or at referral, this can be carried over to the repeat year and you will be able to repeat the year internally or externally.

If you do not pass the IRCP at the first attempt or at referral, you will only be able to repeat the year internally due to the clinical sessions
