Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Produce a dissertation on an agreed laboratory based project, which contains an introduction (about 2,500 words) on the background scientific literature
• Collect record and interpret laboratory data.
• Design and test scientific hypotheses
• Design and perform laboratory experiments in a chosen area of research
• Effectively communicate a body of scientific research via oral presentation

Each student undertakes an investigation which includes both practical and theoretical components. The theory component will consist of a critical review of the literature relating to the proposed experimental component of the project. The laboratory work is related to the appropriate degree programme. Each student is assigned to an appropriate supervisor who will advise on and direct the project.
