Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Understand the nature of change in environments (A1)
• Collect, analyse and understand data in geography, using field techniques (D4)
• Marshall and retrieve data from library and internet resources (C6)
• Conduct field research with appropriate techniques, in a responsible and safe manner, paying due attention to risk assessment, rights of access, relevant health and safety regulations, and sensitivity to the impact of investigations on the environment and stakeholders (D2)
• Understand the importance of integrity, quality assurance and archiving in relation to data (D6)
• Produce fluent and comprehensive written reports on complex topics (C2)
• Use geographical principles, theories and methods to design and undertake a research project based on data (B4)
• Analyse, reflect on and critically interpret geographical data (B6)
• Analyse reflectively and critically literature in geography (B1)
• Understand the relationships between human processes in shaping physical environments (A2)
• Understand the distinctiveness of particular places and regions within the global mosaic (A4)

Preparatory lectures leading up to the fieldtrip: Introduction to fieldwork; research ethics and risk assessment

The 4-day residential fieldcourse, including a mini project with group presentation on the final day of the fieldcourse
