Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• effectively research specific roles and industries and articulate your relevant professional abilities, personal goal setting towards identifying a suitable placement opportunity.
• Identify effective communication, interpersonal and other critical skills in preparation for the recruitment process
• create a positive and professional online presence through social media and online recruitment processes.
• develop own confidence in the ability to effectively represent key skills in preparation for the recruitment process

Knowledge and Understanding

Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

• enhancing reflection and practical awareness in relation to your own transferable skills and early career planning
• the employer requirements and identify your skills and experience to tailor to these.

You will be supported throughout the module through a series of lectures, seminars, peer support sessions with experienced placement students and online learning. These will help in gaining a competitive application together with an understanding on how to professionally represent yourself virtually and in person. The module content will vary depending on industry need or changes in recruitment processes, however topics will include:

• Identifying where there are opportunities and use these to develop employability skills
• Understanding your strengths and transferable skills, both technical and soft skills
• Identifying with different career pathways
• Developing professional communication and team working skills
• Creating a personal development plan
• Develop an understanding of the application process
• Identifying with employer expectations
• What the job market looks like
• Creating a professional profile
• Develop a competitive employability portfolio

General Resources

Microsoft Teams. Teams could be used as part of the recruitment process. It is therefore essential for students to familiarise themselves with this platform. Throughout the module there will be Teams activities.

Blackboard. The online learning activities are incorporated on MANG1016 Blackboard. The tasks created on Blackboard need to be completed as part of the formative assessment. Notifications of further resources/seminars/opportunities are provided on this Blackboard. Group discussions and enquiries will also be held on Blackboard.
