The Applied Research Project provides you with the opportunity to conduct a significant piece of independent research on a topic of your choice.
You will investigate a practical problem or issue relevant to your degree programme by collecting primary and/or secondary data with a focus on application of theory to practice
You will choose from three different project formats

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- justify the selection of a chosen topic;
- identify, collect and analyse appropriate data;
- critically evaluate the chosen techniques and methodologies, highlighting reliability, validity and limitations;
- demonstrate commercial acumen and apply knowledge of the key drivers of business success and failure;
- critically assess the identified business challenges (such as developing new markets, customer relationships, products, services and processes).
Knowledge and Understanding
Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- research paradigms, research approaches, research strategies and research methods appropriate to chosen topic;
- the selected field of study in management;
- current research related to chosen topic.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- use library and other resources effectively, and apply bibliographical skills.
- communicate written ideas and arguments;
- collect and critically evaluate qualitative and quantitative information;
Syllabus
The module includes taught sessions and active learning on professional development, interpersonal skills, and research methods, as well as an independent applied research project.
Under the guidance of academic supervisors, students undertake applied research projects relevant to their programme of study, focused on an issue of their choice. They define and investigate the issue to propose evidence-based conclusions and recommendations.
They present the results of their work in the appropriate format (academic article/consultancy report/business plan), linking research outcomes to current theory and practice;

Teaching methods include:
- Private study
- Guided study and research activity as advised by the supervisor
- Practical experience
- Personal reflection
However, other teaching and learning activities may be undertaken by some students depending on their particular project.
