Module overview

This module builds on your knowledge gained from the Foundations of Occupational Therapy Practice and complements all your semester two modules. It will enable you to understand the bio- psycho-social- behavioural theories, which have an impact on occupational participation and engagement.

Explore the sensory systems and impact on occupation.
Examine concepts of spirituality and what this means for the individual.
Discuss the application of behaviour change in relation to occupational choices.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of genetics and genomics in relation to occupational therapy.

Psychological factors on occupational engagement across the life span.
Cognitive processes in healthy people across the life span.
Key physiological functions in healthy people across the life span.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

The programme is built around the principles of spiral learning, utilising both pedagogical and andragogical approaches to teaching and learning. Throughout this module you will experience a mix of teaching modalities such as active and experiential learning, self-directed and collaborative learning, alongside traditional lectures and flipped classroom sessions.
