Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Produce an analysis of a specific policy problem
• Review and critique existing examples of policy analysis
• Analyse the context in which policies are developed and implemented
• Apply skills in policy analysis

Description

The course is composed by 12 lectures of 1.5 hours each. The first 4 lectures will cover theoretical foundations, lecture four to seven will cover tools of policy analysis, lecture eight will focus on writing skills, lecture nine to eleven will cover policy analysis case studies, and lecture twelve will be a workshop and Q&A on the writing of the final

Teaching and learning methods

Lectures by the course leader

Interactive exercises and roleplaying games during lectures.

Group discussion of ‘Harvard style’ case studies of policy making.

General Resources

Case studies. The requisite books and journals are in the library most in the reserved collection. For the assessment of group work, the case studies are provided by the convener through Blackboard. For the policy analysis exercise the resources are publicly available on the internet.
