Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate research relating to broad topics of human sexuality
  • Describe key sexuality concepts such as gender, sexual orientation, and function
  • Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues in human sexuality based on theory and research findings.

Syllabus

Students will explore theory and research findings as related to a range of topics including sexual function, gender, sexual orientation, attraction, behaviour, communication, and relationships. On successful completion of the module students will be able to: 1. Critically evaluate research relating to broad topics of human sexuality 2. Describe key sexuality concepts such as gender, sexual orientation, and function 3. Demonstrate an understanding of contemporary issues in human sexuality based on theory and research findings.

Learning and Teaching

Teaching and learning methods

Teaching and learning methods include 11 x two-hour lectures and 1 x two-hour tutorial session with small and large group discussion. Students will be expected to read all core readings and some additional readings and, where relevant, to make use of the internet resources for seeking further information.
