Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

• Design, apply and evaluate research methods appropriate to answering the research questions.
• Critically reflect on the research process and evaluate what you have learnt.
• Critically appraise appropriate literature sources (theoretical and substantive) in relation to the chosen topic).
• Present your research clearly and to a high standard with appropriate academic referencing.
• Interpret findings with reference to appropriate literature and identify the implications of your research.
• Identify and develop strategies to overcome ethical issues.
• Formulate a (set of) research questions based on that literature.

The module begins in semester 1 week 7. Over the next 6 months you will work with the support of your supervisor to undertake a research study: collecting data, analysing it and writing up results and findings in a 10,000 word report. This module provides an additional layer of support for the process including element such as the ethics application, data analysis, reviewing literature and dissertation structure and writing. The module concludes when the dissertation is submitted online at the end of April.

Teaching and learning methods

A dissertation supervisor will be assigned to you in semester 1. You will keep in regular contact with them and they will support you with the research process and provide you with feedback on your progress via meetings and emails. Dissertation lectures and Q and A sessions will be scheduled over the year, both online and inperson. They will support you with elements such as ethics, qual and quant data analysis, literature reviewing and presenting findings.
