This project focuses on areas such as the exchange of technology (sound and colour), genre and representation.
Examining films from the late silent film era to the immediate post-World War II period, the project included the analysis of neglected as well as canonical films, biographical investigation and documentation, and the close examination of patterns of migration and exile, and international film production. Among other activities, the project team organized a conference, which resulted in several publications, and a database of significant émigré personnel.
