Hannah Macpherson has expertise in collaborative research, resilience, qualitative methods and participatory art. Her interdisciplinary work builds on and develops the talents and insights of disabled and marginalised groups, contributing to debates in Social and Cultural Geography and Social Care.

I care deeply about the settings, temporalities and embodied attunements that are required to cultivate high quality research and grow emancipatory social relations, care and support

Hannah is co-author of ‘Inclusive Arts Practice and Research: a critical manifesto’ with Alice Fox (Winner of Times Higher Excellence and Innovation award 2017) and was Principal Investigator on the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded research project ‘Building resilience through collaborative community arts practice.’

She uses walking interviews and other qualitative, art-based and participatory research methods with D/disabled people and she seeks to develop feminist and new-materialist theory and practice in applied research contexts.
In the foreword to Hannah’s co-authored book, Anna Cutler, Director of Learning, Tate Modern, London states “Inclusive Arts Practice and Research is an open and generous call for co-constructed hope based on the potential for creative exchange. When do we get started? “ The answer of course is now! She is currently developing her work on an ESRC funded project with Professor Andrew Power. ‘ Reclaiming social care: Adults with learning disabilities seizing opportunities in the shift from day services to community lives (ES/P011764/1)’ . and is an associate of the resilience research and practice charity ‘Boing Boing.’
