Freya Radford is a Postgraduate research student within the School of Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton.

I am a PhD student researching microplastics in the terrestrial environment. I began my interest in environmental pollution while completing my undergraduate degree in marine biology at Plymouth University where I studied the ecotoxicological impacts of pesticides on marine invertebrates. After this I worked in industry as an Aquatic Ecotoxicologist, researching the impacts of persistent organic pollutants on aquatic plants and invertebrates.

Currently, I research microplastics in the terrestrial environment. My project aims to develop methods for quantifying microplastics in soils and to determine the extent of microplastic contamination in agricultural soils. I am particularly interested in the use of biosolids, as an agricultural fertilizer, as a source of microplastics in the soil environment.

Qualifications

2012-2015 Marine Biology BSc (First class, hons)

2015-2017 Aquatic ecotoxicologist at Cambridge Environmental Assessments

Research interests

My research interests include environmental pollution (particularly microplastics), ecotoxicology and the impact of anthropogenic compounds in the environment.
